5 yesterday! I think Lua is getting broody as she was laying in the eggs and got incredibly upset when gently nudged her to get the eggs. She squawked so the world knew of the tragedy and went back in the hen house.
Not sure what to do with her, but she is a nice girl.
Didn’t post yesterday cause we went to a family gathering which was amazing! This afternoon, I went down to give the ladies feed. 16 eggs were in the box with Lua laying on them. I gently pushed her off and she squawked for about 5 minutes at the top of her lungs, the tragedy that she endured...
Thank you for your help! It was indeed very scary. My wife renamed her “Henny” today. I walked out to check on her and my wife was in the back yard with her “worming”. I had made her an egg with cyan pepper and oregano and had brought it out to make sure she ate. Well she ate the night...
So just got off the phone with the vet. Still no amoxicillin, they are vapor locked on how long to avoid eggs and meat. Meanwhile, my chicken is in quarantine. She seems to be more upset than sick at this point. She still has a hoarseness about her, but isn’t gasping for air nor cyanotic...
God bless you @Winderdear still waiting on the vet, but she doesn’t seem super sick, more agitated that she is limited to the small area. She drank and did eat some crumble. Her sister “Dale”, I call her Red, seemed to be looking for her tonight around roosting time. Might have been my...
I just checked on her and she appears to be resting comfortably. I don’t hear her breathing hard. I spoke to someone who is knowledgeable about chickens in my area, and his first words was aspiration. Much like @Wyorp Rock suggested. Maybe she aspirated a gnat? Or maybe some other bug?
My...
Nine today from 11 ladies. “Chip” is still in quarantine and didn’t lay (can’t say I blame her). She is holding her own, waiting on our vet to get her antibiotics. Called today, hope tomorrow. She doesn’t appear to be suffering, MUCH better color but missing her flock.
Update this morning: she seems to be a bit “better” this morning. Her breathing is much more normal and her comb and waddle are normal color. Her voice still crackles, but she isn’t needing to stretch her neck and open her beak to exchange air. Her crop emptied over night. She is eating...
I just checked on her before laying down for the evening. She is laying down, resting. Her respiratory rate is still noisy and elevated. I did notice her not being as cyanotic as she was earlier, although I looked at her via flashlight which maybe alternating her color. Thank you, never thought...
