Thank you for a comprehensive review of these predators. We lost 4 of my 6 chickens two nights ago to what we thought was a bear attack. We had two Omelet coops / runs which have protected them completely for over 4 years. Until this - one coop's roof was ripped off although the under layer...

Is my Speckled Sussex hen really a rooster?

Hello! These three are five months old. They all get along and are very friendly to humans. One started looking different from the other two about 2 months ago. No eggs and no crowing, yet, but I am thinking Jean may be a rooster. Thoughts?

Is this a Speckled Sussex? Hen or Roo?

I am thinking one of my 5-month-old Speckled Sussex hens is a rooster. No crowing, yet and she is very friendly with the other two, not challenging my other roosters but appears to have bumps on the backs of her legs. None have laid eggs. Is she maybe just a bit older?

    Help me narrow down breeds?

My Australorp Velvet was perfect in every way a chicken could be. You can get a different color if you don't want black, but they are truly beautiful, especially in the sun with the green/purple sheen on black feathers. I just placed a small order with Cackle hatchery. There was good...

    Feeding the chipmunks!

I am really enjoying these chickens! We got them for my husband who is recovering at home after a serious accident last year. Thought they would keep him occupied and moving around outside. I think I am having more fun with them than he is!

    Feeding the chipmunks!

d There is a top on the run - it's an Omlet chicken tractor. Supposed to be nearly predator proof. I hope weasels can't get in. A hawk already landed on the top of the coop but there was no way he could get at the chickens.

    Feeding the chipmunks!

The other day I saw the chipmunk sneak in and head for the feeder. All three chickens chased it out of the pen! There are more than one, but maybe they'll get the message. Those chickens have been eating a lot! They are on Grower food now. When should I swithch them to Layer?

    Feeding the chipmunks!

Hello from Connecticut! We have had our three girls for a month now. They are our first chickens. Each one has a different personality and they have been very entertaining. I've noticed that chipmunks have been getting into their run and feeder, which is the Eglu Go Up by Omlet. What type...
