Something is chewing on my chickens neck...

It's right where her neck ends, just before her back starts.

Something is chewing on my chickens neck...

No plans to go to the vet at this point. I'm not sure any local vets work with chickens and she is very content inside for now - eating, drinking, pooping, grooming. Should we start antibiotics even if she seems to be doing good and we regularly spray with vetericyn? Or should we wait a bit and...

We have vetericyn and are spraying it regularly to keep it clean. Any ideas on what could have done this?

I got a couple of photos, but you can't really tell how deep it is.

My husband got a headlamp and inspected the wound last night, he couldn't see the "bottom" of the wound/hole, but there were no visible maggots. Could they be hiding out of sight or would we definitely see them?

Something is chewing on my chickens neck...

I appreciate the ideas! I will try to get a pic at some point when my husband can help. He's the only one she lets hold her. We don't have raccoons here, so that's not it. She is inside the house and safe while she heals, but we have to figure this out so she can return to her coop/outside safely.

I can't get a photo, but will post if I can. It is very clean, no bugs or flies and we are spraying it regularly with vetericyn. It's very weird as her feathers are not disturbed like they would be from an attack. We put a mouse trap in the coop and cleaned it - no signs of mice. We live in the...

No bugs visible in/near the wound. The would is larger than we thought. It is partly down her back and extremely deep. She seems fine, but my husband isn't sure she's going to make it. It's very distressing. How would we know if she is in pain? We don't want her to suffer.

We don't know if the previous injury was the same thing or different. At the time, we had been gone overnight and the neighbor was caring for her. We though maybe a raptor tried to get her and missed, but there were no claw or teeth marks, just missing feathers and skin on the back of her neck...

She is our only chicken, it's a very large coop. She had a neck injury a few weeks ago that healed up well. We kept vetericyn on it. How could we tell if it was maggots - would they be easily visible at all times? Could they burrow a hole in her neck?

Something is chewing on my chickens neck...

EDIT: I updated the info and added photos down the thread. My husband is now thinking something is getting her out in the yard, but really we are completely lost and have zero ideas. My pet chicken has a very deep hole in her neck, possibly another wound near there as well. It looks really bad...

3 Dominique Roosters Need New Home Fast (The Gorge)

I have three 5 month old Dominique roosters in the Columbia River Gorge area that need a new home (or homes). These are great birds, good at foraging and watching the sky for predators. Two are true to breed, one has a single comb instead of a rose comb - but he has the prettiest crow so far.

Huge lump on my chicken (pointy growth)

It is possible, but then the gland would be buried under that growth somewhere. Perhaps the gland is creating the scabbiness and building out the cone? Any ideas? Her comb color is fading and she won't sleep or eat with the flock - though she eats just fine if I feed her separately. Poop looks...

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/878165/huge-lump-on-my-chicken-pointy-growth#post_13353320 A couple of the other chickens have been pecking at her lately, but the one on the other side is in the middle of her waddle. It looks like a growth...
