I have three chicks I’m having trouble sexing.
So a little info about them. #1 is very bold and friendly, doesn’t mind being handled but is loud. #2 is flighty and hates being handled or touched. #3 is the sweetest, shy, loves being handled and loves attention but is scared of the other two...
I’d love to create a rumpless henny feathered silver moorhead (lakenvelder and dark brown gene together) pearl eyed fibro OEGB type bird. Any idea how I could start?
Looking back on the account, the father of the father was a gold barred, and the mother was dominant white with a little crest and rose comb. He does have some gold leakage, is it possible he carries s+ underneath the white? I know for sure he is not splash.
Doing some further research, I actually found pictures of the parents. Now I'm even more confused as the father seems to have some type of red underneath the dominant white.
That was informative, thanks. Perhaps it was the recessive cream gene (ig or something) that does that. I swear reading that somewhere.
I wonder if it would be possible to do matings with a wildtype bird to isolate these genes since they seem to work differently.
Thanks! I thought birchen too but wasn’t too sure. However, with dilution genes doesn’t it also dilute the shanks and skin? He seems to be a mulberry in terms of skin color which is odd to me.
I came across a very bright (and extreme) diluted (by the looks of it) rooster while going through some posts. What is causing the diluted pigment to be so bright and what is this pattern called?
(Also, how could one replicate it? What breeding stock would you use?)
A breeder north of here of cold hardy breeds (Chantecler, New Hampshire, Sussex.. all that jazz).
I figured they might be some extra mixes they were trying to sell.
Thanks haha! They’re still terrified of me which is kind of sad but sweet nonetheless.
The second one has green legs with yellow on the footpad which is the oddest thing to me. I thought the third one was an RIR too but it seems too dark and it has faint chipmunk patterns (eyeliner and backstripe).
I have a couple chicks that I’m having trouble identifying, especially the third, any guesses? (Also, is it too early to tell gender?)
1. Has a comb which looks like a mix of single x cushion, I’m guessing it’s a New Hampshire Red x Partridge Chantecler. It has a bit of what seems like white...
We processed our rooster today and our hens have been screaming for hours. He was processed in a separate building.
Is there any other reason why they might be screaming?
I know all buffs carry black restrictors, a red enhancer and some sort of dilution gene but does it make a difference if they carry Cb or Di for the dilution part of their plumage?
What’s the difference between these two genes?
Absolutely nothing, the entire hatch was ruined. A lot of DIS. Will be trying complete dry incubation as the humidity around here is mostly 60% anyways.
