    Normal Pecking Order Establishment?

I'm guessing this is normal. I have two 7 week white cochin hens that I move into a grassy area during the afternoon. I also have two 3 week old partridge cochin hens that I just started putting out in the same area for a short while - it's very warm here, in the mid 80's. The whites don't...

    Bantam ID?

I think they are cochins - maybe golden laced? They are pretty little things. ETA: Yep, partridge cochins. What I was calling laced is actually penciling?

    Bantam ID?

Just got two little bantams from Rural King. They were in the assorted bantam bin from Hoover Hatchery and are approximately two weeks old. Any idea what they are? I'm hoping their mille fleurs.

    Good news! Thank you!

    Hen or Roo?

I was told these were both hens, however, the feathers are different. They are six weeks today. The first pic: the chick had this weird bump on the back, but only two days later, feathers are filling in, but the tail feathers are sticking up and the side feathers are long and sweeping back. In...

    Is She Dying?

Do you see the thing on the back of the chick on the left? It looks like the new feathering, but it also looks swollen. These girls were in a big run with larger hens - red and black sexlinks mostly. I'm wondering if she was getting pecked. She just doesn't seem as energetic as the other one...

    Is She Dying?

Well, they are out there dust bathing now. Maybe it was just the long car ride and change. However, there are a few odd looking things - I'll keep watch and see what happens.

    Is She Dying?

They are sleeping on me right now. One is cooing.

    Is She Dying?

She doesn't jump up, but does lift her head and open her eyes. Rather she seems like she can't walk well. They were both quite happy to get food and ate well, but she sort of laid into the feeder with her top half - I lifted her over to the feeder. I may try bathing her feet to see if there is...

    Is She Dying?

I just brought home two white cochin bantams, about 5-6 weeks old. They both looked fine in the yard at the feed store. However, now one is just laying with her head down and closing her eyes off/on. The other is sitting beside her, quite alert. They are sitting on a towel in soft grass under a...

Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

We and our three barred rocks girls are well. They are about a year old now and laying very well. Their eggs are huge (as are their poops!) with deep yellow/orange yolks. We can't keep up with their production which benefits my neighbors greatly :)

    Leghorn Destructivenss

My coop sits inside a 10x10 covered pen, so I put them in the pen to get familiar with it. Around sunset, I put them on the roost in the coop and they stayed right there. I like their calm demeanor. I had a few Polish recently that drove me bonkers with their flightiness - gave them to a friend...

    Leghorn Destructivenss

Got 3 barred rocks today - 3 months old. I am surprised at how soft and pretty their feathers are.

    Leghorn Destructivenss

No males in our boro. The farm has barred rocks, leghorns, orps and wyandottes. Only one RIR left now. I need to get them tomorrow as the pullets are about gone. I don't want to raise babies right now.
